Sometimes people ask why I only offer memberships instead of pay as you go or blocks/terms. There are several reasons for this:
Consistency - I want my clients to genuinely experience the benefits of Pilates and improve their aches and pains, to move better, increase body awareness and be stronger and more mobile, as well as finding they can carry these things into other their activities. Inconsistent practice will never deliver that. You might enjoy dropping into a class every now and then, but let’s not pretend it impacts your long term health. Just one class a week makes a real difference in your body. My members also have unlimited access to more than 250 on demand workouts so there’s plenty of opportunity to do more!
Commitment - when I gave up my previous career to focus on teaching Pilates, I made a huge commitment. As many of you know, I’m a single income household too so it really was a leap of faith and I’d be lying if I said it was easy. I teach regular classes most weeks of the year, including the summer holidays when many classes stop for a couple of months. We close for two weeks at Christmas, a week at Easter and the August bank holiday week, as most people are away these weeks and I found when I did teach them hardly anyone came! I pay for cover teachers at any other times when I go away and I also try to get cover if I’m sick when I can. In return for my commitment to regular teaching, I ask that my clients commit to their practice too.
Cost - memberships allow me to offer classes at a much lower price, and at the same time cover running costs. If you attend regularly, classes are far more reasonably priced than drop in classes would be. Membership essentially buys you a spot in a regular class, so you never have to worry if there’s a space for you (and it helps me to manage capacity). It also allows my clients flexibility, as if they miss a class they can join a different one, again encouraging consistency. And in fact, as our booking system works on a monthly basis, while I price based on 42 weeks a year currently, you in fact get the equivalent of 60 weeks’ classes as the gold membership gives you 5 classes per month.
Community - this was really important to me. I’ve been to lots of fairly anonymous classes over the years. My members get to know each other and progress together. Classes are a fun and supportive environment to improve and try things out. This also helps with consistency because if it’s fun we’re much more likely to keep going!
